Vilas County is truly a land of lakes-in fact, there may be no other place on earth with as many lakes in such a small area. This abundance of water combined with beautiful forests makes Vilas County one of the most breathtaking places to bike. There are a number of paved trails and many miles of road available to touring bicyclists. Mountain bikers will appreciate the variety of excellent trails interspersed throughout the county.

Vilas County, with its many lakes, is famous for its hundreds of lakeside resorts and rental cabins. You'll also find a wide array of motels and both public and private campgrounds. There also many quality restaurants, diners and supper clubs in the area. And no trip to Vilas County would be complete without a visit to some of the interesting and unique shops and galleries found throughout the county.
Attractions
Vilas County Historical Society Museum. See historical exhibits, including the world’s
first snowmobile. Located in Sayner on Highway 155.
Wildwood Wildlife Park and Nature Center. See deer, black bear, and wolves, as well
as exotic animals from around the world. Great for kids. Located off Highway 70 just
west of Minocqua.
George W. Brown, Jr. Ojibwe Museum & Cultural Center. Learn about the area’s
native Ojibwe people and their history. See exhibits focusing on Ojibwe arts, crafts and
culture. 603 Peace Pipe Road in downtown Lac Du Flambeau
John Dillinger Shoot-out Exhibit at Little Bohemia. View memorabilia & damage from
the 1934 shoot-out. May be viewed year-round during restaurant hours. Located on
Highway 51 South, 2 miles south of County Highway W, Manitowish Waters.
North Lakeland Discovery Center. The North Lakeland Discovery Center, a nature and
outdoor learning center, is home to over 11 miles of bike/hike/ski trails, and you’ll
find nearly every type of Northwoods natural habitat along the way, including two new
state-of-the-art sections of platformed bog walk. Be sure to check out the Big River Trail
along the serene Manitowish River, or loop around scenic, undeveloped Statehouse
Lake. Trails are groomed in winter of classical skiing and snowhoeing. These trails are
also the site of the annual “Just Tri-It Triathlon the Saturday before
July 4th, a short, fun Tri where you can compete on your own or as a team.

Powell Marsh Wildlife Area. Powell Marsh Wildlife Area is an official Great Wisconsin
Birding & Nature Trail site.
